The Dallas Mavericks evolution to da stereets?

•June 22, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The Dallas Mavericks a.k.a. “Team Choke Artist” have been known to be somewhat of a soft team over the last couple of years. From there NBA finals 2-0 collapse when Dwayne Wade made commercial deals off the Mavs defense, to winning 68 games and getting posterized in the first round by the And 1 Mixtape team of the Golden State Warriors. Baron Davis And company made the Mavericks look like some rich suburb kids intoduced to the hood for the first time. Half court three pointers, ankle breaking crossovers, flashy alley-oops, and Sportscenter top ten plays dunks were the perfect way to show their gritty and grimey style of ball, and how spineless and soft style wouldn’t last in the playoffs. Layer that on top of this years physical and disrespectful abuse by the Hornets in the first round (ex. David West’s Ike Turner slap to Dirk Nowitzki, which Dirk did nothing) and you can see Barrack’s motto “It’s time for a change” coming into full affect for this realing franchise. First the Mavs wen’t after a coach to suit there new image and Rick Carlisle fits it to the “T”. Every coaching stop he was at from the Pistons to the Pacers, were known for there physical style of play and attitude.( Just ask the fans of Detroit when the Pacers players handed out a beating like Joe Jackson when you took the wrong step). Although they have Carlisle coaching, they still need to add the “hood element” to the squad. How about adding a player that was critized for trying to get a job at circuit City to get an emplyee discount, attended practice in a robe, was suspened two games for asking for a month of in  season to promote a r&b album, and has been suspended many times for flagrant fouls. What about someone with beautiful quotes like this diamond “They better not put me in the All-Star Game. I won’t shoot, but I’ll dominate that easy game. I’ll be playing hard defense. I’ll be foulin’. I’ll be flagrant fouling . Everyone will be like, ‘What are you doing?’” Only one man in the NBA can fufill all of these great qualities and he is none othe than Ronald William Artest. Ron Artest would bring a culture shock to the Mavs not seen since Prince Akeem Joffer was “Coming to America”. I believe his defensive abilty combined with his physical offensive game could be enough for the Mavs to make another attempt at a NBA championship. Many forget just how good Ron plays because of his many antics, but to get a ring I belive the Mavs would put that behind them. There are not many great defenders left in the league and when you have a chance to get one you leap at it.
