Europe or College Ball?
The number one high school prep point guard in the country, and recent commit to the University of Arizona Brandon Jennings has decided to abandon his college basketball dreams. Jennings’ first choice was to live a college sports dream in attending Arizona and playing basketball for a notorious college basketball powerhouse. All of that changed when he was rejected 3 times by the school’s administration. Really he had three choices: He could continue to try to pass the testing, go to a junior college, or go over seas to Europe and make over a million dollars and sign a shoe contract. So it was not a major surprise to me that Arizona’s star pupil made a very business savvy move and in deciding to play abroad in Europe. I believe Brandon has started a trend of High School stars surpassing the NBA rule of one year in college by going overseas and making a great one year pay day. But not to worry, Mr. Jennings will definitely be back in the US next year giving the NBA another game and culture changing point guard. Whether it’s his high top fade or his flashy and quick b-ball skills we will miss his style this year, but we have plenty to look forward to in 2009.
